Timeline

  1. 14:30

    The Stockbridge Tap

Pick up a drink at The Stockbridge Tap. It is a traditional pub with a good range of ales and whiskies, and it opens at 13:00, so you have plenty of time before the sun goes down.

  2. 15:20

    Inverleith Park

Walk to Inverleith Park. The banked area near the pond in the south of the park offers good views over the New Town and the Castle. Find a spot where you can see the sky change color.

  3. 16:10

    Inverleith Park

Watch the sunset. On 15 January the sun sets at 16:10 toward the SW. The golden light starts around 15:00, so the park will be bathed in warm light just before the sun dips below the horizon.

  4. 16:40

    Scran and Scallie

End the evening with a meal at Scran and Scallie. This upmarket gastro pub serves modern Scots cuisine and is open until 23:30, making it a perfect spot to stay after the cold sets in.

Local tip

The walk from The Stockbridge Tap to the park is short, but the view from the banked area near the pond is the main event. Get there early enough to claim a good spot away from the sports pitches.
