Pick up a pork knuckle or sit for a simple meal at Schweine Janes Altstadt. It is a small, popular spot with freshly roasting meat near the window. The portions are satisfying and the cuisine is straightforward.
17:40
Walk from the restaurant to the Palais Wittgenstein. This historic site houses the Marionetten-Theater and the Institut Francais. It serves as a quiet transition point between the residential Bilk district and the industrial chic of the harbor.
18:00
Continue the short walk to the Medienhafen viewpoint. This is the southern end of the Rhine promenade. The area is defined by striking architecture, including the Gehry buildings. Find a spot on the promenade to watch the light change.
18:40
Watch the sunset. On 15 October, the sun sets toward the WSW at 18:40. The light will wash over the harbor’s modern structures and the Rhine river just before the sun dips below the horizon.
19:10
End the evening with a warm meal at Sattgrün. This buffet restaurant is located near the Rheinturm and Medienhafen area. It offers fresh homemade food and a varied lunch menu that continues into the evening. It is open until 22:00.
Local tip
The walk from Palais Wittgenstein to Medienhafen is about 20 minutes. If you want a quicker route, check the route for a bus or tram from the Bilk area to the Medienhafen stop. The sun sets in the WSW, so position yourself facing that direction for the best view.
