Timeline
06:36
Arrive at the Port of Jebel Ali. Find a quiet spot along the harbour edge where you can face west-south-west. The air is still and the scale of the industrial harbour is impressive in the dim light. Wait for the first hint of colour on the horizon.
07:06
Watch the sunrise. The sun crests the horizon, casting long shadows across the water. The golden light begins to flood the scene shortly after, turning the steel and concrete structures warm and bright.
07:51
The sun is fully up and the golden hour is in full swing. This is the best time to take in the full scale of the port. Since there are no food or drink options listed in the immediate vicinity of the port itself, check the route back towards Dubai city centre for a café or breakfast spot once the sun is well above the horizon.
Local tip
The Port of Jebel Ali is located thirty-five kilometres southwest of Dubai. Allow extra time for the drive or check the route carefully if you are using public transport, as services may be limited this early in the morning.
