Timeline
15:50
Grab a tea and sit for a while at this café in the Souq. It opens at 08:00, so it will be open and ready for you.
16:20
Wander through Souq Waqif. This is the best place to pick up souvenirs and rub shoulders with locals. The market is open until 22:00, so you have plenty of time to explore the alleys and shops like the Gold Souq and Fabric Souq while the light is still good.
17:05
Find a spot near the edge of the souq or a nearby terrace. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting a final golden glow over the older architecture of the neighborhood just south of the souq. Enjoy the transition from day to night.
17:35
Stay in Souq Waqif as it lights up. The atmosphere shifts as the evening begins, with sheesha cafes opening up and the market staying lively until late.
Local tip
The older neighborhoods south of the souq have some notable old villas and mosques that predate the 1970s buildings. It is worth a quick wander around them while the light is fading.
