Timeline
15:48
Grab a coffee or light snack before heading out. The area north of Salwa Rd is remote, so bring your own refreshments or check the route for nearby options in Salwa before you depart.
16:03
Walk to the unlocked gate of Dhal Al Misfir. The 40-meter-deep cave is surrounded by a chainlink fence, but you can step inside freely. The fibrous gypsum crystals inside catch the fading light just before the sun dips below the horizon.
16:33
Stand at the edge of the cave opening. At 16:33, the golden light hits the WSW horizon. The resident flock of Little Owls may be stirring as the light shifts. Stay for the full transition into twilight.
17:03
Head back to Salwa Rd. It is dark now, so drive carefully. Find a quiet spot in Salwa to end the evening with a warm drink.
Local tip
The site is in a remote desert area. Bring water and a flashlight for the walk back. The gate is unlocked, but the fence is high, so keep an eye on children.
Check before you go
- The cave is open 24/7, but visibility is best during the golden hour.
- No facilities are available at the site. Bring all supplies with you.
