Golden Light at Sacsayhuamán

Beat the crowds and catch the warm glow on the Inca fortress walls.

Best time: 17:52About 120 min

Timeline

  1. 16:22

    Organika Bakery y Cafe

Grab a chemex pour-over and a seat in the bright, modern space. It is open early enough to secure a quiet table before the afternoon rush.

  2. 17:07

    Sacsayhuamán

Walk up the paved curvy road to Sacsayhuamán. The climb is steep but rewarding. Arrive just in time to find a quiet spot on the upper terraces.

  3. 17:52

    Sacsayhuamán

Watch the golden light hit the massive Inca stonework. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting long shadows and warming the stone in a way that is best seen from this elevation.

  4. 18:37

    El Encuentro

Head down to El Encuentro for a late dinner. The reasonably priced vegetarian menu is perfect after a day of climbing. The free salads with lunch are gone, but the main courses and mate are a comforting end to the evening.
