The hillsides of Pukapukara take their name from the red hue they hold in the late afternoon light. This plan gets you there just as the sun begins to soften the landscape, with a coffee stop to start the climb.

    Organika Bakery y Cafe

    Pick up a chemex or French press coffee at Organika Bakery y Cafe. The bright, modern space is a calm start before the hike. It opens at 07:00, so it is fully ready by early evening.

  2. 16:13

    Pukapukara

    Walk up to Pukapukara. The paved road is well-traveled but steep. If the climb feels too heavy, hire a taxi or take a combi shared bus up from Qenko for S/1 to save energy. This third site on the route is larger than Q'enqo and offers great views along the way.

  3. 17:13

    Planetarium Cusco

    Stand at the Planetarium Cusco viewpoint. From here, you catch the golden light washing over the valley as the sun sets toward the WSW. The 57-minute walk from the anchor keeps the journey manageable.

Local tip

The walk to the viewpoint is long and steep. Use the shared bus option if you want to conserve energy for the view.
