Timeline

  1. 08:00

    Frilandsmuseet

Arrive at Frilandsmuseet before the gates open. The museum is vast, so use this quiet time to find a good vantage point near the Kongevejen side. The sun rises in the East, casting long shadows across the historic farms and windmills as the sky brightens.

  2. 08:30

    Frilandsmuseet

Watch the sunrise. At 08:30, the first rays hit the roofs of the relocated historical buildings. The open green space between Kongevejen and the Mølleå river is still cool and empty.

  3. 09:00

    Frilandsmuseets Restaurant

Head to Frilandsmuseets Restaurant for a warm breakfast. It is just a one-minute walk from the viewing spot. The restaurant opens at 10:00, which is exactly 30 minutes after sunrise. Enjoy the beautiful setting inside.

  4. 09:30

    Frilandsmuseet

Explore the museum grounds. With breakfast done, wander through the authentic farms and houses. If your feet get sore, you can take a horse-drawn carriage around the large area for a fee.

Local tip

The restaurant is only open in season. Check if it is operating on your visit date, otherwise Brede Spisehus is a reliable alternative nearby.
