Best time: sunsetAbout 135 min

Timeline

  1. 14:38

    Vindmøllen i Kastellet

Grab a coffee or a light bite at Vindmøllen i Kastellet. This café sits right on the ramparts, offering a quiet place to settle in before the main event. It is just a three-minute walk from the fort's center.

  2. 15:38

    Kastellet

Walk down the grassy slopes of Kastellet toward the southern edge. The fort is open 24/7 and free to enter. Find a spot on the ramparts facing south toward Luftkastellet Ophelia. As the sun dips toward the southwest, the golden light hits the historic stone walls and the water below.

  3. 16:53

    Restaurant Kastellet

After the light fades, head just seven minutes south to Restaurant Kastellet for a warm Scandinavian dinner. It is the closest full-service restaurant to your viewing spot, making it an easy end to the evening.

Local tip

The ramparts are grassy and can be uneven. Wear comfortable shoes for the short walk between the café and the viewing edge. If you visit in winter, bring a layer as the wind off the water can be chilly after sunset.
