Timeline
15:23
Grab a quick coffee and browse the amber collections at House of Amber. The shop is open from 10:00, so you have plenty of time to browse before heading out.
15:38
Walk to the octagonal courtyard of Amalienborg. Arrive early to find a quiet spot in the square or on the steps of the Christian VIII Mansion to watch the light change. The museum is open until 16:00 if you want a quick interior look, but the real magic is outside.
16:08
Watch the sun set toward the southwest. The golden light reflects off the yellow facades of the mansions and the water in the distance. This is the peak moment for photography and people-watching.
16:38
End the evening with a cocktail at Dahl & Dahl. This wine and cocktail bar serves tapas based on products from Bornholm. It is a short walk from the square and offers a relaxed atmosphere to digest the day.
Local tip
The square can get crowded during the royal guard changing ceremony, but at sunset it is usually more relaxed. Keep an eye on the time as the light fades quickly in January.
