Timeline

  1. 16:12

    Galle Face Green Promenade

Walk the Galle Face Green Promenade while the heat is still manageable. The ½-km stretch offers a spectacular view of the Indian Ocean and the city skyline. It is a lively spot with kite flyers and merrymakers, but early afternoon is often less crowded than evening.

  2. 17:12

    Graze Kitchen

Head to Graze Kitchen for an early dinner or substantial snack. It is just a short walk from the promenade. The menu features an array of ethnic cuisine including Sri Lankan, Chinese, Japanese, and Italian served in an interactive fashion. It is open until 22:30, so you will have plenty of time.

  3. 17:52

    Gordon Gardens

Stroll over to Gordon Gardens for a moment of calm. This 16,000 m² space holds an amazing variety of trees and offers a peaceful contrast to the busy promenade. It is a short walk from your dining spot.

  4. 18:12

    Galle Face Green Promenade

Return to the Galle Face Green Promenade for sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting a warm glow over the water. This is the best time to watch the sky change colors while enjoying the atmosphere of the promenade.

  5. 18:42

    Capital Bar & Grill

End the evening with a drink at Capital Bar & Grill. Located near the promenade, it is open until 01:00 on weekdays and 02:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. It is a good place to relax after the sunset view.

Local tip

The Galle Face Green is best enjoyed at sundown for the spectacular view. Bargaining is required if you visit the Pettah Market, but for this plan, we focus on the serene promenade and nearby dining.
