Timeline
20:10
Walk through the grounds of Kate Sheppard House. This historic home of the suffrage leader is quiet and reflective in the late afternoon. It is the perfect place to start your evening out, setting a thoughtful tone before the city lights come on.
20:40
Stop for an early dinner at Zyka Indian Cuisine. With a short walk from the house, you can settle in for a meal while there is still some daylight left. The restaurant is open from 17:00, fitting perfectly into this pre-sunset window.
21:30
Head to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens to catch the sunset. The gardens are located to the ESE of your starting point. As the sun sets toward the WSW, the light will filter through the exotic plants and trees, creating a serene atmosphere along the Avon River loop.
22:10
After the sun has set, walk to Curators House inside the Botanic Gardens for a drink or late dinner. This historic building, once home to the Curator, now serves Spanish cuisine. It is open from 17:00, making it an ideal spot to enjoy the evening air after dark.
Local tip
The Botanic Gardens are vast. If you want to see the sunset without a long walk from the house, note that the gardens are to the ESE while the sun sets WSW. However, the short walk to Curators House after sunset is pleasant and well-lit.
