Grab a quick bite at Anusarn Market. It is a busy outdoor night market with lots of little Thai, Indian and Western restaurants and food vendors. The atmosphere is great and it is open until 23:00.

Head to the Mae Ping River Cruise landing at Wat Chaimongkol boat landing, between Hotel Chedi and Ping Nakara. The cruise runs from 08:30 to 17:00, but you can access the riverbank area during these hours. The Mae Ping is a grotty, slow-flowing stream the colour of greenish khaki with nondescript banks, but it offers a unique perspective of the city as the light fades.

Find a spot along the banks near the landing to watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW around 18:06. The golden light starts about 17:35, so the sky will be painting the murky water in warm tones.

End the evening at O'Malley's Irish Pub. It is just an 8-minute walk from the river. It has inside (air conditioned) and outside (smoking) seating. The interior closely resembles an authentic pub and serves delicious cocktails and excellent Western and Thai food. It is open until 02:00.
Local tip
The Mae Ping is not a scenic river in the traditional sense. It is a grotty, slow-flowing stream. Manage expectations and focus on the atmospheric light and the novelty of the location.
