Timeline
15:44
Grab an Italian Ice or a drink from the Snack Shack. It is open in the summer from noon to 8 PM, so you have plenty of time before the sun goes down. The live music adds a nice backdrop if you visit in the evening.
16:24
Walk to the Cheshire Reservoir. This dammed portion of the Hoosic River offers a wide open view. The Farnams Rd barrier splits the water, but the northern and southern halves both provide good spots to watch the sky change color.
16:44
Watch the sunset. On January 15th, the sun sets at 16:44 toward the WSW. The golden light begins around 16:00, giving you an hour of warm, soft light to enjoy the water and the quiet atmosphere.
17:29
End the evening with dessert at Diane's Twist. This ice cream and dessert shop is open daily from 11 AM to PM, so it will be open after your sunset view. It is a short walk from the trail area, making it a perfect cool-down spot.
Local tip
The Snack Shack is a food truck, so cash or card might have different limits. Diane's Twist is on the Appalachian Trail and Main St, easy to find if you are coming from the trail side.
