Walk two minutes to the Pierhead building. Stand in the shadow of the dragons and heraldry. Look west. As the sun dips below the horizon, the white Portland stone of Cathays Park catches the last golden light, contrasting with the darkening bay.

Stay for the transition. The light fades quickly after sunset. Walk three minutes to The Botanist to settle in for the night. Order a drink and watch the city lights come on across the water.
Local tip
Check the route if you need to get back to the library or city centre after. The walk from the Pierhead to Cathays Library is 65 minutes.
Check before you go
- Quantum Coffee Roasters closes at 19:00 on weekdays and Saturdays, and 18:00 on Sundays. Make sure you arrive before closing.
- The Botanist opens at 23:00 on Sundays to Wednesdays, 00:00 on Thursday, and 00:00 on Friday to Saturday. It opens at 10:00 on Friday and Saturday.
