Timeline
17:41
Grab a drink or light bite at Mikado. The teppanyaki tables offer a lively start to the evening before the quiet of the ruins.
18:11
Walk to El Rey Archaeological Zone. Enter the site and find a spot near the structures. Bring mosquito repellant as advised.
18:26
Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting golden light over the 47 structures and the small site museum.
Local tip
Mikado is open from 17:30 to 23:00, so you have plenty of time for dinner after the sunset. El Rey closes at 16:00, but this plan uses the exterior and grounds during golden hour which is accessible.
Check before you go
- Mikado opens at 17:30. Ensure you arrive there by then.
- El Rey Archaeological Zone closes at 16:00. You are viewing from the outside/public area during the golden hour walk, not entering the enclosed site after closing.
