Timeline
16:50
Grab a pint at the Lighthouse Pub. The outdoor decks face the lake, giving you a front-row seat to the sky changing colours while you wait for the sun to dip.
17:20
Walk to John Knight Memorial Park. The 24-minute stroll from the pub is gentle and takes you along the water. Arrive with twenty minutes to spare to find a spot on the lawns or ridges where the Big Powerful Owl sits in the distance, silhouetted against the setting sun.
17:40
Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WNW, aligning perfectly with your view from the park towards the sculpture. Stay for the golden light as it fades.
18:10
Head to Bella Vista Restaurant for dinner. It is just a six-minute walk back towards the hub. The white-linen interior and panoramic window views provide a calm, upscale finish to the evening after the open-air park.
Local tip
The Lighthouse Pub is a major social hub, particularly for university students. If you want a quieter drink, the park itself offers plenty of space to sit and watch the sunset without the crowd.
