Timeline
19:05
Pick up a snack or coffee at Canberra Centre. It is the largest shopping mall in the area and has plenty of options to grab something before heading out. The walk from here to the park is short, taking about seven minutes.
19:20
Stroll through Glebe Park. This 40-hectare remnant of 1840s Anglican church land is perfect for a calm walk. In January, the strong autumn foliage provides excellent colour for photography as the light begins to soften.
20:00
Find a quiet bench or open patch in the park to wait. The sun sets toward the WSW, so position yourself where you can watch the light fade over the trees. The golden light starts around 19:44, giving you about twenty minutes of warm illumination before the main event.
20:20
Watch the sunset. At 20:20, the sun dips below the horizon. The autumn colours in the park will reflect the last rays of light, creating a vivid scene.
21:05
End the evening with a meal at Kinn Thai. It is a popular Thai street food spot with great chicken and seafood. Since it is open until 21:30 on weekdays (and later on weekends), it is a convenient stop after the sunset. The walk from Glebe Park takes about ten minutes.
Local tip
Glebe Park is small and quiet. If you want more space, consider the Australian National Botanic Gardens, but it is a 40-minute walk away. For a quick sunset view, stick to Glebe Park.
Check before you go

- Canberra Centre is open daily, so timing is flexible for the first step.
Worth knowing
- Kinn Thai is open at 21:05 only on Mo, Tu, We, Th, Fr, Sa
