Timeline

  1. 16:40

    Gibraltar Falls

Grab a coffee or a snack and head to the picnic area. The falls are open, and this is a good spot to settle in before the light changes. Check if any nearby cafes are open for the late afternoon.

  2. 17:10

    Gibraltar Falls

Walk down to the lookout. The golden light starts hitting the waterfall face around 17:06, so arrive early to find a good angle. The view of the 50-metre drop is best when the sun is still high enough to illuminate the rock.

  3. 17:40

    Gibraltar Falls

Watch the sunset. At 17:40, the sun sets toward the WNW. The light will fade quickly, but the silhouette of the falls against the darkening sky is striking.

  4. 18:00

    Gibraltar Falls

Stay for the blue hour. The picnic area and barbecue spots are still accessible. It is a quiet time to reflect on the view before heading back.

Local tip

The falls are in Namadgi National Park. Check opening hours for any nearby facilities as they may close early in winter. Bring a jacket; it gets cold near the water.
