Find a quiet picnic area in Thompson Park. The trails here offer easy access to the Continental Divide, but for this plan, you just need a flat spot to wait out the final half hour before the light shifts.
16:56
Walk north from the park area to the Eagle's Nest Disc Golf course. The course is set in a forested area, and the tree line will frame the sky perfectly as the sun dips below the horizon toward the WSW. The Mining City Disc Golf Club is making improvements here, so keep an eye out for any new markers as you settle in.
17:11
Watch the sunset. The sky will turn from bright blue to deep orange as the sun sets toward the WSW. The forest canopy creates a natural frame, softening the glare and letting you soak in the final moments of daylight.
17:26
Head back south to Thompson Park as the light fades. The park has 25 miles of trails and picnic areas, offering a calm place to linger or walk off the cool evening air while the forest transitions into twilight.
Local tip
Thompson Park is open at all times, but the disc golf course is an outdoor facility. Check local conditions for any trail closures after dark.
