Timeline

  1. 12:00

    Cafe Tortoni

Sit for an early lunch at Cafe Tortoni. The historic interior is best enjoyed when it first opens, before the crowds arrive. Order a mate or a light meal to fuel up.

  2. 12:45

    Galerías Pacífico

Walk to Galerías Pacífico. The grounds are open until 21:00, so you have plenty of time to wander the top floors and view the art at the Centro Cultural Borges without rushing.

  3. 13:15

    Obelisco

Head to the Obelisco. Stand at its base and look down Avenida 9 de Julio. It is the widest street in the Americas, spanning 22 lanes. The afternoon light here is perfect for taking in the scale of the city.

Local tip

Cafe Tortoni opens at 08:00, so arriving by 12:00 ensures you get a seat in the main hall. Galerías Pacífico is open daily until 21:00. The walk between these spots is short and stays within the pedestrian-friendly center.
