Timeline
10:00
Step into the Museo Casa Carlos Gardel at opening. The museum is housed in the reconstructed home where Carlos Gardel and his mother lived. Arriving at 10:00 on a weekend lets you explore the 'Gardelian universe' and the intimacy of his daily life before the crowds arrive.
10:45
Walk 13 minutes to Le Blé for a coffee or light snack. This café is open from 08:00, so it is fully operational by mid-morning. It is a calm spot to recharge after the museum.
11:30
Head to the Buenos Aires Japanese Gardens (48 minutes walk from the anchor, or check the route if you prefer transit). This public space, administered by the Japanese Argentine Cultural Foundation, is one of the largest Japanese gardens of its type in the world outside Japan. The dense trees and plants organized by region offer a quiet, green escape from the city noise.
12:30
End your afternoon at Veggie Medio Oriente near the Obelisco (10 minutes walk from the Japanese Gardens if you route that way, or take the metro from the garden area to the Obelisco and walk 4 minutes). Open from 11:00, this restaurant serves very tasty Middle Eastern food with large portions. The 'vegiebomba' is a highlight. It is a great place to sit and relax with a meal before the evening begins.
Local tip
The museum is closed Monday through Friday before 11:00. On weekends it opens at 10:00, which is why this plan starts then. The Japanese Gardens are a long walk from the center; if you prefer to stay near the Obelisco for food and sights, swap step 3 for a visit to Galerías Pacífico (13 min walk from Obelisco) to see the art on the top floors.
