Sunset Behind the Bridge

Pick up a treat, walk to the water, and watch the sun drop behind the historic suspension bridge.

Best time: sunsetAbout 90 min

Timeline

  1. 16:41

    The Gelato Fiasco

Buy an artisan gelato. The shop is open late and makes it fresh daily, so you have plenty of time to enjoy it before it melts in the evening air.

  2. 17:21

    Pinette's Landing

Walk 20 minutes to Pinette's Landing. This is the closest spot to the bridge and offers a clear line of sight for the sunset alignment. Find a bench or a quiet patch of grass near the water.

  3. 17:41

    Androscoggin Swinging Bridge

Watch the sun set directly behind the Androscoggin Swinging Bridge. The original cables frame the final light of the day perfectly.

  4. 18:26

    Frontier

End the evening at Frontier. It is a short walk from the landing. The refurbished mill overlooks the river, and the art gallery or filmhouse is open late if you want to stay for the night.

Local tip

Pinette's Landing is a 20-minute walk from the gelato shop. Check the route for the most direct path along the river.

Check before you go

  • The Gelato Fiasco is open until 23:00, so timing your visit 60 minutes before sunset works well.
  • Frontier is open until 21:00, which fits comfortably after the sunset viewing.

Worth knowing

  • Sun position is calculated. We have not confirmed the view is unobstructed.
  • Frontier is open at 18:26 only on Tu, We, Th, Fr, Sa, Su
