Timeline

  1. 15:15

    Burra

Stop at Burra for a coffee and a pastry. It is just five minutes from Durdham Down and open until 16:00, giving you plenty of time before the evening chill sets in.

  2. 16:00

    Durdham Down

Walk onto Durdham Down to claim your spot. The open grassland offers a clear view toward the southwest where the sun will set. Arrive early to find a comfortable patch of grass away from the main paths.

  3. 16:30

    Durdham Down

Watch the sunset. The sun dips toward the southwest, painting the sky in warm tones over the city. Stay for the last few minutes of light as the day fades.

  4. 17:15

    Steam

End the evening at The Spiny Lobster. This seafood spot is open until 15:00 on weekends, but for a weekday evening, head to The Downs Cafe nearby which is open until 17:30, or check the route to a nearby pub like Steam which opens at 17:00 on Sundays. For a reliable warm drink immediately after sunset on a weekday, The Downs Cafe is the safest bet as it closes at 17:30.

Local tip

The walk from Blaise Castle Estate to Durdham Down is long (over an hour). It is much easier to start directly on the Down. If you need more food options, Divino Deli is open until 20:00 on weekdays and is very close to the Down.
