Stop for coffee and a bite at Brew. It is a creative and relaxed café off the Albert St Mall with great coffee and boutique beer. It opens at 07:00 on weekdays and 08:00 on weekends, so it will be open and ready for you well before sunset.

Walk to Kangaroo Point. The walls along the Brisbane River are a popular spot for rock climbing and give an excellent view of the CBD skyline just across the river. It is only a 17-minute walk from the City Botanic Gardens. Arrive early to claim a good spot on the grass or the walls.

Watch the golden light hit the city. On 15 January, the sun sets toward the WSW around 18:14. The walls are well-lit after dark, so the view carries on into the evening.

End the night with a late snack. Pancake Manor is a Brisbane institution open 24 hours. It tends to fill up with nightclub revellers on their way home after about 3AM on a Saturday or Sunday morning, but earlier in the evening it is a reliable spot for a late treat.
Local tip
Kangaroo Point is well-lit after dark, making it safe for a stroll even once the sun has set. Check the route if you need specific directions from the gardens.
