Timeline
16:30
Walk the trails along the Maumee River as the sky turns gold. The low winter sun casts long shadows across the water.
17:30
Stand by the riverbank and watch the sun dip below the horizon toward the west. The light fades quickly, so take your time soaking in the view.
18:15
Head back to your car. It is dark now, so drive carefully. Check the route for the nearest town center to find dinner and a drink.
Local tip
The sun sets toward the WSW in January, so position yourself on the eastern side of the river for the best view. In spring and summer, the sun sets further north, but the principle remains the same. Bring a jacket; it gets chilly by the water after dark.
Check before you go
- Check the local sunset time for your specific date, as it shifts throughout the year.
- Ensure your vehicle has fuel for the drive back to civilization after the park closes or when it gets dark.
