Timeline
16:02
Grab a quick breakfast burrito and coffee. El Zarape opens at 11:00, so this early start is for pre-dawn fuel before the sun hits. If you prefer a sit-down meal later, Sundial Kreischer opens at 17:00, which is too late for a sunrise plan. Check the route for El Zarape.
16:37
Walk to Doyt L. Perry Stadium. The horseshoe layout leaves the south end open, creating a perfect frame for the sun rising toward the WSW. Find a spot on the north side facing south to catch the golden light hitting the open end.
17:07
Head to Sundial Kreischer for a proper breakfast or late-night style meal. It is open from 17:00 to 24:00, but since we are following a sunrise theme, note that this venue is actually for evening plans. For a true sunrise follow-up, check the route for other nearby cafes that open earlier. If sticking to listed places, Sundial is the only eat option near the anchor, but its hours do not align with sunrise. Instead, end your walk near the stadium or park.
17:17
Stroll to Carter Park. It is an 18-minute walk from the stadium. Enjoy the natural area and picnic shelters as the morning warms up. It is one of the largest parks in Bowling Green, offering space to stretch your legs after the cold start.
Local tip
The sun sets toward the WSW in January, meaning it rises toward the ENE. The open south end of the stadium faces away from the sunrise. To see the sunrise directly, you may need to adjust your viewing angle or wait for the light to reflect. Check the route for the best approach.
