Pick up a hot coffee or pastry at JP Licks before heading to the pond. They open at 06:00, which is early enough for a winter sunrise walk.

Walk four minutes east to the Jamaica Pond Bench. Find a seat facing west toward the water. The path is quiet this early, and you will have the best view of the horizon.

Watch the sunrise. The sun rises in the east, but the light reflects beautifully off the pond surface as the day begins. Enjoy the stillness of the Emerald Necklace.

Head back to JP Licks for a proper breakfast or brunch. The shop is open until midnight, so it is the perfect spot to warm up and stay a while after the cold morning walk.
Local tip
Jamaica Pond is open from sunrise to sunset. Dress warmly in winter as the wind off the water can be biting.
