Timeline
06:38
Stand at the geodetic survey point. The Basal-Bonn 1847 marker is a technical monument from the 19th century. Arriving at sunrise means you have the site to yourself and can watch the light hit the stone before the day starts.
06:53
Walk eight minutes to Elmar Klein for a fresh pastry. The bakery opens at 06:00 on weekdays and 08:00 on Sundays. For an April sunrise walk, arrive right when they open to get the best bread and coffee while the shop is still quiet.
07:18
Head to the Familienraum to see the Loic Devaux sculpture group. The four Larvikit stones are the artist's graduation work. It is a calm spot to reflect on the morning light and the quiet of the Nordstadt.
Local tip
The walk from the bakery to the sculpture garden is short and easy. If you prefer a seated coffee over a pastry, check the route to James Joyce, which is open from 15:00 in the afternoon, so it is not suitable for this early morning plan.
Check before you go
