Timeline

Start at Haus der Geschichte. The museum offers a compelling look at post-1945 German history. Note that exhibitions are in German, but audio guides and guide booklets with English translations are available for a small fee. Admission is free.
15:39
Walk to Gustav, a nearby restaurant. Grab a bite or a coffee here before the afternoon light fades. It is open until 18:00 on weekdays and weekends, fitting comfortably before the sunset window.
16:09
Walk north for nine minutes to Villa Hammerschmidt. This former residence of the West German President offers a quiet, historic setting. It is the perfect vantage point to wait for the sun to dip below the horizon toward the WSW.
17:09
After the sun sets, walk ten minutes to Canal Grande. This Italian restaurant sits right at the Rhine with a wonderful view. It is the ideal spot to end the evening with a meal as the city lights begin to reflect on the water.
Local tip
The sunset is toward the WSW. Villa Hammerschmidt is positioned to the north of the anchor, offering a clear northern-facing perspective that complements the western sunset view when you move toward the river.
