Start at the Dutton Arms for a pint and a bite. It is a pleasant seafront pub with decent grub and is dog-friendly. Being close to the pier, it is easy to pop in for a quick drink before the main event.

Walk over to South Pier. Opened in 1893 as the upmarket Victoria Pier, it now features arcades, a funfair, a cafe and a bar. Find a spot on the pier itself to face the sea.

Watch the sunset. On 15 January, the sun sets at 16:21 toward the SW. The golden light begins around 15:18, giving you plenty of time to get settled and enjoy the view as the day ends.
Local tip
The Dutton Arms is open until 23:00 on weekdays and 22:00 on Sundays, so you have plenty of time for a post-sunset drink if the weather holds.

- South Pier is open daily from 10AM between April and November. In January, check if it is open as the hours may differ outside the main season.
