Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses
Arrive at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses. The late afternoon sun is still high, but the golden hour glow begins to soften the edges of the glasshouses. Walk through the herb garden and let the heat of the day linger in the tropical houses before it fades.
21:08
Walk two minutes to The Malt House. The sun is low and hitting the canal side terrace. Claim a seat outside while the light is still bright enough to read a menu without a torch. Order a drink and watch the water.
21:53
It is now dark. Walk thirteen minutes to Rectory Bar & Restaurant. The gastropub is vibrant and warm inside. This is the place for a proper dinner with quality steaks and a superb wine list to keep you going through the night.
22:53
After dinner, head to The Queens Arms for a nightcap. It is twelve minutes away. If it is a Thursday, join the quiz. If not, enjoy the live sport and the lively pub atmosphere to wind down the evening.
Local tip
The Malt House has outdoor seating that is best in the sun. If it is cloudy, sit inside early. The walk from the gardens to the canal is pleasant but can be chilly once the sun drops, so bring a layer.
