Timeline

  1. 18:38

    Bohemian Lane

Start with a coffee and cake at Bohemian Lane. The warm interior is a perfect contrast to the evening chill, and the location is close enough to begin your walk without rushing.

  2. 18:58

    Basílica de Begoña

Walk up to the Basílica de Begoña. The climb takes you out of the city bustle and onto the hill overlooking the bay. Find a spot on the terraces or steps that face west.

  3. 19:28

    Basílica de Begoña

Watch the sun dip below the horizon toward the west. The basilica’s stone façade catches the last warm light, and the view across the river to the Guggenheim and the estuary is clear and bright.

  4. 19:53

    Malatesta

Head down to Malatesta in the Siete Calles. It is a short walk from the church. Order a drink and some pinchos in a space that blends culture, food, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Local tip

The walk from the basilica down to the old town is steep in places. Take your time on the descent. Malatesta is open until 22:30 on weekdays, so you have plenty of time to linger after the sunset.
