Timeline

  1. 06:38

    Peet's Coffee

Grab a strong coffee and a pastry to go. Peet’s has been a Berkeley staple since it started here, offering intense coffee and great tea.

  2. 07:08

    Berkeley Rose Garden

Walk up the hill to the Berkeley Rose Garden. Find a spot on the benches facing west. The garden sits high above the city, offering a clear view of the bay as the sun rises.

  3. 07:53

    Caffe Chiave

Head back down to Caffe Chiave for a sit-down breakfast. The quiche and desserts are excellent, and the owner often sings Italian ballads on Sunday afternoons.

Local tip

The walk from Peet’s to the Rose Garden is steep. Bring your coffee in a travel mug and allow enough time to reach the viewing area before the sun crests the horizon.
