Timeline

  1. 15:44

    The Raven

Grab a pint of real ale and a pie at The Raven. It is a friendly locals' pub with a good selection of board games upstairs if you want to kill time, but the bar is the spot for a quick, hearty start. The pub opens at 08:00, so it is ready well before sunset.

  2. 16:09

Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights

Walk five minutes to Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights. Browse the quirky indie bookshop and go upstairs to see the first-floor sections. It is open until 17:30, giving you plenty of time before the evening rush.

  3. 16:29

    Georgian garden

Step out into the Georgian garden of the Herschel Museum. This small, restored garden with its gravel paths and simple topiary is the perfect vantage point. The museum is closed on Mondays, so ensure you visit Tuesday through Sunday. The garden is open from 10:00 to 17:00 in the winter months, but the exterior terrace and immediate grounds allow you to witness the sunset as the light fades on the stone facade.

Local tip

The museum is closed on Mondays. The garden entrance is part of the museum admission, which costs £5 for adults.
