Timeline

  1. 05:32

    Tungurahua

Start your hike from the center of Baños towards Termas el Salado. Take the first right on the road leading to the baths to find the marked trailhead. This early start ensures you have time to reach a good vantage point before the sun crests the horizon.

  2. 06:17

    Tungurahua

Watch the sunrise over Tungurahua. The sun sets toward the WSW, meaning the morning light will illuminate the eastern slopes and crater of the active volcano. The air is cooler and the trails are quiet.

  3. 06:47

    Tungurahua

Begin your descent back toward Baños center. The golden light starting around 17:59 indicates the quality of light you just experienced; now you can enjoy the morning clarity as you walk back.

Local tip

Check the route for the taxi to the ranger station if you prefer not to hike from the center, but the trail from the town is marked and accessible.
