Timeline
09:00
Head to the Norquay ski area early. The trails here are less crowded in the morning, and it is the closest mountain to the townsite. If you are not skiing, you can still enjoy the views from the top or the tube park for non-skiers.
09:45
Drive the Mount Norquay Road up the mountain. Keep your eyes on the cliffs and the roadside; this is the specific spot to look for bighorn sheep, and if you are lucky, you may also spot a mountain goat.
10:30
Stop at the Mount Norquay Green Spot viewpoint. Located 17 minutes from the anchor, this spot offers a clear view of the town of Banff below and the surrounding mountains in the morning light.
11:00
Banff Park Museum National Historic Site
End your morning at the Banff Park Museum National Historic Site. Come and learn about the animals you may see on your trip to Banff. The historic 'cabinet museum' is full of Banff wildlife preserved through taxidermy, including guaranteed bear sightings.
Local tip
The ski season is a little shorter at Norquay because it is at a lower altitude than Sunshine and Lake Louise, and snowfall is less consistent. Check opening hours for the museum and ski area before you go.
Check before you go
- Norquay offers hour-based skiing and night skiing on Fridays and Saturdays.
- The Banff Park Museum is a historic site with taxidermy exhibits.
