Timeline

  1. 14:45

    Ambon War Cemetery

Walk the grounds of the Ambon War Cemetery. The site is open from 09:00 to 17:00, making it a perfect quiet start before the afternoon heat peaks. Read the names of the Australian soldiers who died during the invasion and take a moment of reflection in the stillness.

  2. 16:00

    Swalayan Citra

Head to Swalayan Citra for lunch. Located a short walk from the cemetery area, this shop serves affordable Indonesian and Chinese food with prices ranging from Rp10,000 to Rp40,000. It is open from 08:30 to 21:30, so you will have plenty of time to eat and rest.

  3. 17:30

    Christina Martha Tiahahu Monument

Walk up to the Christina Martha Tiahahu Monument. This viewpoint sits in a hilly area and faces the sunset and Ambon Bay. Arrive about an hour before sunset to find a good spot. The afternoon light is bright, but as the sun begins to dip, the view becomes the highlight of your trip.

  4. 18:30

    Christina Martha Tiahahu Monument

Watch the sunset. On 15 July, the sun sets at 18:30 toward the WNW. The monument frames the sky perfectly as the golden light fades. Take in the panoramic view of the bay while the day winds down.

Local tip

The walk from the cemetery to the monument area takes about 23 minutes. Wear comfortable shoes for the hill. The monument faces west, so ensure you are on the side of the structure that looks out over the bay for the best sunset picture.
