Take the tram up. The ride takes 15 minutes and offers incredible views of the rocky face. Be sure to catch an early enough tram so you are at the top for the sunset. Note that the first upward tram departs at 9AM, but service continues until early evening. Check the schedule for specific departure times as it runs every 20–30 minutes.

Find a spot at the top terminus. The view of the city from Sandia Peak is spectacular. Position yourself facing west to catch the sunset toward the WSW (in January) or WNW (in April/July). The golden light starts about an hour before sunset, so you have time to settle in.

  3. 17:17

Watch the sun set. The sky will shift colors as the light fades. This is the peak moment of the experience.
