Grab a coffee and a pastry at The Park Cafe. It is just a minute’s walk from the Winter Gardens entrance, so you can settle in early and find a seat with a view.

Enter the David Welch Winter Gardens. The large glasshouses trap the warmth, and the varied habitats offer a striking contrast to the cooling evening air outside. Find a spot near the glass where you can see the sky.

Watch the sunset. On 15 January, the sun sets toward the SW at 15:59. The golden light from 14:44 will have already bathed the interior in a warm glow, but the final descent is the highlight.

Head back to The Park Cafe for a warm drink as the evening sets in. It is still open until 17:00, giving you time to linger and reflect on the day.
Local tip
The gardens are wheelchair-friendly, so the paths are easy to navigate even in the fading light.
