Adventure Aberdeen Snowsports Centre
Start at the Adventure Aberdeen Snowsports Centre. Arrive before the doors open to secure kit hire or just stand outside in the quiet morning air. The artificial slopes are open from 14:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, but the early morning stillness is its own reward before the tuition sessions begin.
08:06
Walk to David Welch Winter Gardens. This is a 25-minute walk from the snow centre. The large indoor glasshouses offer a sheltered, tropical escape. Enter via Polmuir Road or Riverside Drive to find the arid, fern and Japanese habitats while the city is still waking up.
08:36
Watch the sunrise. On 15 January the sun rises at 08:36 and sets toward the SW. The golden light begins around 14:44, but the early morning clarity is perfect for photography inside the glasshouses. The contrast of the tropical plants against the winter morning light is striking.
09:06
Head to The Park Cafe for breakfast. Located just a 1-minute walk from the gardens, this is the perfect spot to warm up. It opens at 09:00, which aligns perfectly with the post-sunrise timing. Enjoy a hot drink and a bite to eat in the quiet morning.
Local tip
The walk from the snow centre to the gardens takes 25 minutes. Wear warm layers as the morning air near the slopes can be chilly. The Park Cafe is open every day from 09:00, so you can rely on it for a post-sunrise meal.
